Revealing the Champion in You.

PILR Training is an educational network that transforms and supports justice-centered coaches and student-athletes primarily in the Mid Atlantic Region.

Recognizing sports often serve as a vehicle for transformation, PILR equips participants with the tools, language, and connections to help create a world where every athlete has a coach, team, and community that fully supports them in all aspects of life.

Mission: To optimize the impact of sports through leadership development, narrative change, and community building.

Vision: A world where every athlete has a coach, team, and community that fully supports them in all aspects of life.

Our Programming: How We Work

Leadership Development: Applying a race, gender, and class analysis to addressing the barriers that impact under-resourced coaches and student-athletes, we facilitate workshops, trainings, and community think-tanks to help develop athletic leaders interested in becoming change-makers for and within their respective communities.

Narrative Change: We help members of the athletic ecosystem combat harmful narratives, developed and sustained through policy and media, negatively impacting coaches and student-athletes. We support leaders in identifying and rectifying race, gender, and class inequities revealed in sports programming, resourcing, and success.

Community Building: Through centering relationship building, we provide networking opportunities and create space for justice-centered coaches and student-athletes to connect, learn, and collaborate with one another to advance justice through athletics.

FOUNDER & DIRECTOR

Beulah Osueke (Coach B)

Coach B has an extensive background in community organizing, international network building, narrative strategy, and organizational development, with particular focus on utilizing a person-centered approach to maximize the genius of marginalized people. A Houston native and Philadelphia resident, Coach B is a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University with a Bachelor of Psychology and Sociology and earned her Master of Clinical Psychology from LaSalle University.

From 2013 – 2021, Coach B led the West Catholic Preparatory High School Girls basketball team. In 2020, she became the first Black coach to win Philadelphia’s prestigious Catholic League Basketball Championship and in 2021, became the first Black woman to capture a PIAA state title in Pennsylvania. In total, Coach B led West Catholic’s “Lady Burrs” to 6 city titles, 1 league title, and 1 state championship title, collecting 3 state-wide “Coach of the Year” honors during her 8 year tenure.

In addition to generating historic on-court success, Coach B spearheaded off-court initiatives to deepen the impact of her program and athletic mentorship. These efforts included conducting wellness sessions to enhance her student-athletes’ mindfulness and mental health awareness, implementing customized training programs during the off-season and pre-season periods, organizing Summer camps and clinics designed for middle school students, and introducing an annual “Alumni Appreciation Game” to bolster alumni engagement, fundraising activities, and programmatic legacy appreciation.

Through PILR, Coach B hopes to expand her reach beyond a single school and cultivate the social awareness, cultural competency, and leadership skills of grassroots leaders and student-athletes looking to optimize the impact of sports and change how we define, experience, and pursue “winning.”
